RYAN O'NEAL ARRESTED + STATEMENT FROM HIS MANAGER.
Oh dear, what in the world is going on with Mr. Ryan O'Neal? Just a day after it was announced his long-time love Farrah Fawcett was free and clear of cancer, he gets himself arrested for allegedly assaulting his son. When I first saw the headline, I thought maybe Ryan had an altercation with Redmond O'Neal, the son he has with Farrah, but it ends up it was with his older 44-year-old son Griffin (brother of Tatum).

Early Saturday morning, Feb. 3, Ryan, 65, was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills station, after fighting with his son Griffin O'Neal, 42, and Griffin's 22-year-old girlfriend, Joanne Berry. Deputies went to Ryan’s Malibu beach house at 12:30 a.m. after receiving a call that Griffin and Joanne had allegedly been attacked by the elder O’Neal.

Early Saturday morning, Feb. 3, Ryan, 65, was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills station, after fighting with his son Griffin O'Neal, 42, and Griffin's 22-year-old girlfriend, Joanne Berry. Deputies went to Ryan’s Malibu beach house at 12:30 a.m. after receiving a call that Griffin and Joanne had allegedly been attacked by the elder O’Neal.
“Ryan O’Neal was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon,” Lt. Crystal Miranda of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Dept., tells Star. Joanne Berry “received minor injuries,” was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center. Although Lt. Miranda wouldn’t specify what type of weapon was used by O'Neal, the actor was also charged with "negligent discharge of a firearm." Miranda added that Ryan was released from jail Saturday morning, Feb. 3, at 5:30 a.m., after he posted $50,000 bail.
A 44-year-old man dating a 22-year-old woman? Nice. Oh, she is also pregnant too. I don't know, something seems fishy about this whole thing. Anyway, as of now, the reason for the fight has not been leaked. I'm curious to know the cause of the fight because Ryan really seems like a decent guy. His son Griffin on the other hand, reportedly has had a history of substance related problems. He once pleaded no contest to once firing a gun at an ex-girlfriends empty car and was also found guilty of reckless boating, after being involved in a 1986 accident that killed the son of Francis Ford Coppola. Yikes.

UPDATE: Ryan O'Neal's manager released the following statement to ETonline:
"It is unfortunate that what should have been an internal family disagreement was escalated to the point that Ryan felt he had to defend himself from Griffin's aggressive, extremely menacing physical behavior, (wildly swinging a fireplace poker), in the way he did. The injury to Griffin's girlfriend was caused by Griffin himself and not Ryan, as has been alleged by Griffin. Of late, Ryan has extended himself so far as to insure the young lady, and her unborn child."
"As this is now an open case, Ryan cannot comment any further, but certainly believes he will be completely vindicated after a thorough investigation."
Aww, see. I knew Ryan was a decent guy.

That poor family.
Decent guy? He has a reputation for being a Grade A asshole. The point is that Ryan was arrested, and not the son. Ryan O'Neal reportedly was/is into drugs, violence and IMO, just b/c he was there for Farrah during her cancer, this does not make him a decent guy, at least according to Tatum and others.
TW, first I'm glad that O'Neal supported FF all through her ordeal, as she did for him with his leukemia.
I've read about his temper, though for years. And while this case may be clearly one of self-defense, I've read about that side of him before (the feisty Irish temper).
To his credit, sounds like he's insured the girlfriend and unborn child; Griffin's had problems for the longest time. Tatum wrote that Dad was pretty jealous when she won her Oscar.
Not to take away from the Ryan O'Neal of today, but it sure doesn't seem like he was the world's greatest dad (...knocking out Griffin's teeth in a big brawl). And Tatum went years w/o talking to him.
I have mixed feelings whenever I hear about another family fight with this bunch... he's a real firecracker. JMO
He's got three screwed up kids, that is for sure.
UGH TW, you are making me show my age (although its no where near Ryan's LOL) but he is not a decent guy. He has had all sorts of trouble in the past and its even been said by Tatum that he introduced her to drugs. He has maybe kept his troubles out of the spotlight lately but he is not a good guy by any means.
Hey everyone, thanks for the dirt! I never read Tatum's book so I had no idea about his "past." Oh dear, people always have a past, huh? Oh well, he looked so nice on that Farrah's reality show "Chasing Farrah," but it looks like I should pick up Tatum's book! :)
Ryan has a past, but so does Griffin, a long, violent one. Who knows? They both have such violent, drug/alcohol plagued pasts...
THEY NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM EACH OTHER BEFORE THEY END UP LIKE MARVIN GAYE AND HIS DAD. TATUM TOLD EVERYBODY THAT HER DAD USED TO KICK THEIR ASSES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT WHEN THEY WERE KIDS. RYAN'S GOT SOME SERIOUS ISSUES!
Oy! what a mess-of-a-family, all of them. when's the reality tv show gonna start? i'd watch it!
