EDDIE MURPHY PUBLICLY QUESTIONS PATERNITY OF MELANIE BROWN'S BABY.

Ouuuuuuch. Eddie Murphy is reportedly questioning the paternity of the baby his now 'ex-girlfriend' Melanie Brown (aka Scary Spice) is carrying in her tummy. When the baby news about Brown broke a while back, everyone thought that Murphy was the father, but when Murphy was asked about the pregnancy in an interview that aired on the Dutch TV show RTL Boulevard, his response was all like, "hey, woah, hold up, I don't know if I'm that baby daddy, woah, easy there..." Okay, well, maybe those weren't his exact words, but PEOPLE is reporting that they went a little something more like this:

"We're not together anymore. And I don't know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn't jump to conclusions, sir."

Ugh, someone get me a sweater, cuz it's cold in here. Wow. Yikes. Guess things didn't end amicably between the pair *shiver.* One thing is for sure, Eddie Murphy's "people" may want to talk to their client and find out what really is going on in his personal life before they start denying stories (as they did this one yesterday). The Dutch television show has a clip of the interview on their website with the words coming straight out of Murphy's mouth. Oops!

I suppose Eddie Murphy could've been more tactful in how he addressed the question, but the real issue isn't his tact or lack thereof. The real issue is that he questions the paternity of the baby, and that type of questioning is always going to be a delicate subject. The very question challenge's a woman's morales and her character.

Foe me, the bigger issue is the way the blogger characterized Eddie Murphy's comments. The blogger made him sound like one of the low class guests that we see on the Jerry Springer show. In using phrases like "whoa, hold up" and "baby daddy", the blogger parodied what Eddie Murphy said by subscribing the stereotypes about blacks in America. That strikes me as irresponsible and maybe even racist.

Oh please, give me a break, don't start on that trip please. The "woah, hold up" line was referring to a lot men and their fear of being fathers of women's babies who they are not married to, not to mention, fear of commitment in general. And the term "baby daddy" is used all over the place now as a reference to a child's father. I also the term on a post for anna nicole smith and the fight over who is the father of her child too and neither of those men are african american. Since the thought of a persons race never even entered my head when writing that line, but it entered yours while reading it, you sound more like the one throwing out racial stereotypes. Eddie Murphy is the irresponsible one for publically humiliating Melanie Brown with a comment like that and how sad that you can't even see that.

As an attorney, on the question of paternity, I always advise the following: "DO NOT PAY UNTIL THEY'VE DONE THE DNA!"
