CLAY AIKEN SUED.

Oh this is so lame. It's a sloooooow gossip Monday, so I admit, I'm digging at the bottom of the barrel to try and find you something. Seems like Clay Aiken is being sued by a woman who wrote an "unauthorized tribute" to him called "Out of the Blue" - 'Clay' it Forward." Personally, I think he should be suing her for the shitty title, but the author of the book, Jeannie Holleman, is claiming Aiken and his mother "defamed her and conspired to stifle sales of her book," after the two said they didn't know who the hell this woman was and that her stories were lies. Holleman, who has based the credibility of her whole book on the fact that she says she was a "lifelong friend and neighbor of a family that was friends with Aiken's mother" (yeah, try figuring that one out) put together a book about Clay containing interviews about him with this neighbor family, her own recollections of Clay as a child and stories from Aiken fans.

According to news reports, Holleman is asking for "
at least $260,000 in damages and asks the court to order Aiken to retract the critical comments or endorse the book on his official Web site, to write a positive introduction for the book and to sell the book at his concerts for at least five years." Whatever! Aside from the fact that this woman is a loser for trying to make money off of writing a book on Clay because she has "a friend of a friend" connection to Aiken, is there anyone who would even buy a book on Aiken unless it was a dirty tell all? Nothing against Clay dear, but c'mon...his ship has kinda sailed. For those of you who are fans of his music, Aiken will be releasing his new cd "A Thousand Different Ways," on Sept. 19th.
UPDATE: In a statement just released through his record company, Clay says:
"I instructed my attorneys to not only vigorously dispute the claims that have been made but to also pursue all possible remedies against those involved in the perpetration of these untruths."As a so-called `celebrity' I have become used to scurrilous allegations and untruths being made about me and my work. I have always taken the path of not reacting to these matters and have accepted them as, somehow, coming with the `job.' However, I cannot, and will not, stand by when these attacks are made on my family."

well, considering his recent tabloid troubles, the title of that new cd could mean maaany different things!

the lady is a gold-digging nut. (as in, demand a lot and hope the other side settles.) maybe she's looking for a cruise to the bahamas, but doesn't have the money.

and try to force him to write a positive intro to a book he's not endorsing?? Lady is nutso.

If you read it the lady isn't pissed that Clay didn't endorse the book, she is alledging that Clay and his mom spread lies about her in an attempt to smear her and her reputation and keep people from reading or buying the book.
That is a big difference.

you're right, the slander aspect could work to her benefit. but her settlement requests, if true, seem silly (imo).

if she's an author of note, she may be considered a public figure. that may provide some leeway as to what criticism she has to take, even in the press.

Well, I am a big Clay fan, and I for one have never heard of this woman or her book on any of the Clay boards I go to...I did however love Clay's response to her lawsuit though. Don't mess with his family!

better hair! Clay cancelled out the black dye job, good move.

Now he has to pick better material. His past stuff, very schmaltzy. Like Wilson-Phillips redux. : (

I hope that this woman doesn't sell many books. She has the nerve to publish an unauthorized book and then sue Clay for defaming her. I hope that she dosen't receive a red cent for her book.
