MEL GIBSON ARRESTED.

Uh oh. Mel Gibson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving at 2:36 a.m. Friday. The only information available was that Gibson was stopped by a deputy after he observed Gibson driving his Lexus at a "high rate of speed" on Pacific Coast Highway. After a field sobriety test was performed, Gibson was detained, booked and later reportedly released on $5,000 bail. No word yet on his blood alcohol level, etc. etc. Gibson is said to have battled his demons with the booze years ago and had a DUI arrest in 1984. It's been reported that he started attending AA meetings in the early '90's. Aw jeez, I hope everything is alright with good 'ol Mel. I like the fellow.

I'll stand by Mel... this is a tough headline.

He's done so much with his fame and blessings. I wish him well through all of this.

Mel Gibson is a racist, sexist scumbag loser. Hate it when people use religion to justify hatred towards other groups. That's what enables religion to tear us apart instead of bringing us together.

Fuck Mel Gibson ... he's not a nice fellow ... he's a Jew-hating drunken piece of shit! His worthless father says the Holocaust never happened and Mel agrees. It's a shame anyone in Hollywood allows him to make any film.

As he gets older and loses his looks his true face comes through - and it's not nice. He's low class, hateful and ungrateful. He's a bigot and yet has been able to make his millions with help and connection of the very people he hates. What did they ever do to him - except aid him to be rich! This so called religious man should get down on his knees and thank the Jewish saviour he belives in for forgiveniess and clense him of the hate he prevades, along with his sinful father.

Mel Gibson is an important if paralyzing figure. Just from your 3 or 4 negative posts, it's proof that religion is a personal, powerful language.

Don't hate Mel for having beliefs. He's done a lot of good with his wealth and gifts, and it's very few people who can match his record of contribution.

If your religious beliefs are different and therefore better, you are guilty of the HATE you say you condemn. Learn to accept.

hell will be a very crowded place with all the people who drink, drive or flip out under the strains of alcohol.

props to mel for issuing one of the classier apologies with no excuses, but taking full responsibility for his behavior.

Oscar Wilde said, "Alcohol, when consumed in large amounts, produces a state of intoxication."

Duh. Mr. Gibson was extremely drunk. Drunk people generally say and do things they would never say or do if they were sober.

Mel has battled severe alcoholism for along time. He has been open and honest about his problem. He remained sober for many, many years. His relapse is very sad, as it is for any addict who relapses. Alcohol addiction really sucks, because the drug is legal, and people can try to sell it to you all the time. Do they offer you a shot of heroin when you get onto an airplane? Would you like a hit of crack before appetizers, sir? No, but it's OK to goad people into drinking alcohol at any opportunity. If you're an addict, it's awful. Since 90% of the alcohol consumed is purchased by alcoholics, guess who has the biggest problem dealing with the constant pushing of booze everywhere you go?

Give this man a break. Mel Gibson takes on extraordinary amounts of stress and responsibility doing the work he does. He provides jobs and income for hundreds, if not thousands of families all over this planet as a result of the movies his companies produce. Theatre owners, distributors, popcorn companies, editors, advertising agencies...ad infinitum...all make money from Mel's products. That's pressure, people.

I have had alcoholic friends call and ask to marry me,
who did not remember one word of it the next day.
Alcohol makes the brain malfunction. Who knows if Mel is anti-Semitic really? He was drunk, and in all fairness, what he said the other night cannot be held against him.

You don't say things drunk that aren't at least in your mind as the truth.

And as far as "religious beliefs" go .. trashing another religion is not in and of itself, a relgious belief. Trashing all Jews in the horrible way he did, is NOT a "belief".

Please, what's up with all the Mel Gibson apologists? What, because people enjoy a few of his movies, and maybe he gives money away, it erases all this crap?

Anyone battling a demon is in line for a little sympathy. That's all. Not an apologist for this type of behavior. The worst part is that he put others' lives at risk as well as his own.

I'm sure what he said will be remembered for a long time to come. It may become equal to his body of work.

I totally agree with 2:00's post:
"He provides jobs and income for hundreds, if not thousands of families all over this planet as a result of the movies his companies produce."

If you've never embarrassed yourself in public or said something to offend SOMEONE, you're one of the very FEW.

Good luck and good health to Mel Gibson.

Yes, people say things when they are drunk that THEY ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELIEVE when sober. No, there is not necessarily a hidden core of truth in drunken statements. That's one of the bizarre things about alcohol...it makes people say and do things that are completely and utterly foreign to them and who they really are, and against their core beliefs. Alcohol is a powerful and dangerous drug to everyone, and alarmingly destructive in the 10% of the human population who are alcoholics. Talk about a lethal weapon.

That's what Mel Gibson said in his WORLDWIDE public apology. He said he got drunk the other nite, and the alcohol made him say and do terrible things. He does not hold those beliefs, his drunken statements were despicable, and he is mortified, deeply ashamed for himself and his family, and HE'S SORRY. He's dealing with his alcoholism, and his "horrific relapse". What more do you people want him to say? He's only human! Would you honestly have felt better if he had been killed, or maimed or hurt somebody else? Where does all this hate come from? What good does it serve? He says he hates what he said and what he did, not Jews or cops or women or anyone else! C'mon people.

I'm not apologizing for Mel. He apologized for himself quite eloquently. He is quite repentant, and I am willing to bet he will spend millions to prove it.

Mel turned out to be a rather great man despite the fact that he was raised by a man who is a virulent anti-Semite and a delusional religious demagogue. Have you ever read some of the things his father has writen and said in public interviews? If you had a father like that, you might drink, too. The fact that Mel survived his upbringing shows you what an amazing guy he really is, even though he did get a touch of the religious mania in his psychological makeup.

Mel Gibson, a child in a tribe of 11, has a bigot father who was famous for winning a quiz show that provided funds for him to relocate his large family to Australia when Mel was a child. The father still writes zany religious tracts Down Under. Mel grows into an amazing movie actor, director, producer and businessman, and one of the richest, most successful and most popular people in California, in the USA, and well nigh the planet Earth. Could he possibly have gotten that far in a business that is 90% controlled by Jews if he were anti-Semitic? Think about it!

Mel confronted his alcoholism in 1984 and stayed sober for 22 years. I know people who have sat with him in hundreds of AA meetings. He worked really hard at his sobriety. In the meantime, he made billions of dollars for Hollywood, for realtors, and contributed zillions in taxes to the coffers of the State of California and the USA which enriched the public schools, paved streets and even pays the salaries of the cops who busted him.

So, the man relapses, and now all the good he's done and the willpower, discipline and hard work and extraordinary giving of his time and energy just flies out the window? All of a sudden he's a no-good, wasted, raving anti-Semite? Wow. How soon they forget.

I wish Mel well in his path to healing. I wish more people had more understanding and less hatred. Celebrities just mirror what's up in society,
and it's sad to know that nobody's allowed to make a mistake in public without being "crucified".

Very eloquent 4:24. Ironic too, because blogs are the place we all let loose and say whatever offensive things we want -- without the excuse of alcohol and no strings attached.

So beyond Mel Gibson's relapse, I guess we can hold up a mirror to ourselves and stop trying to look into his soul. It seems he's aware of his mistake and has apologized for a horrible verbal tirade.

Quite the irony in asking us where OUR hate comes from.

I hope he gets himself together, but a lot of people are going to hold his words and actions against him. And rightfully so.

Somehow I can't manage the sympathy for the guy because he's made millions of dollars - therefore paying millions in taxes to fix the streets and schools. Ahh, saint Mel - he paid taxes! What a guy! Hilarious.

("Ahh, saint Mel - he paid taxes! What a guy!") >

And I don't think he ever said that in his apology.

He didn't run, he acknowledged an addiction to drink and gave articulate reasons as to why he rambled under the influence. With everything Mideast in the news lately, it makes sense why he exploded.

You've never said anything horrific, hurtful or irreversible? Or more likely you've just never done so in the spector of public scrutiny as someone recognized around the world. Don't worry, he'll suffer for his words. And he'll make amends to cover his damage with acts of good-will that will better the world.

No, I can honestly say I've never said anything "horrific" - drunk or sober.

You don't have to be Jewish to be incredibly offended.

8:00 am, there's no way the words we say throughout life can be judged only by us. You don't need a religious label to devastate someone with words. Marriages fall apart all the time, teenagers say things they regret when they're older... I have said things that were devastating to someone else. I'm sure you have too. It's part of being human.

OMG -- did someone on your post actually state that hollywood is 90% jewish owned & then query how Mel Gibson could have succeeded in the business if here were an anti-semite????

OMG people -- for the record, Jews don't run hollywood & they don't eat Christian babies either. Get a clue people.

You know what, Mel Gibson is a loser; he really is. With all he has, he still can't help but complain. He could use his wealth to help build tolerance in the middle east. Instead he producers an inflamatory movie and now complains about Jews. I hope he hits a telephone pole next time and takes a short hop to meet his maker.

PS: I won't watch any of his new movies.

I will go to every movie he makes if the subject matter interest me. Some of you guys think your silly boycotts will make a diff in his bank account.
Think again. Financially speaking - all Jews can boycott his movies and he'll still make money.

Now you get a clue.
