AMERICAN IDOL RECAP: DOWN TO FIVE!
Contestants had to perform two songs. One from the year they were born and one from today's Billboard's top 10.
Elliot Yamin:
Song 1: On Broadway - George Benson
I adore Elliot, but I wasn't particularly thrilled with this choice of song. His voice sounded really good, but, I don't know...it bored me. He is adorable and sweet though and I dig the gold tie.
Song 2: Home - Michael Buble
This was a really nice song. I haven't heard Michael Buble's version yet, but I really enjoyed Elliot's version. Oh! And I never noticed how blue his eyes were before, so sweet. Simon said Elliot shouldn't have chosen a song with the lyric "I want to go home" in it.
Paris Bennett:
Song 1: Kiss - Prince
I was so excited to hear Paris do this song. Aside from that little weird sounding "ow!" at the beginning of the song, Paris did a pretty good job. Hey, if it was me, I wouldn't have changed the lyrics from girl to boy, "you don't have to be rich to be my girl" is how it's supposed to go, and I think it would have been kinda funky if Paris sang it the way it was written. Simon thought her performance was "screechy and annoying."
Song 2: Be Without You - Mary J. Blige
Oh dear. This Mary J song is just so hot, it was quite dangerous of Paris to do it. I have to admit, little Paris was nowhere near as good as Mary J Blige, but girlfriend held her own and I was impressed. She's on her way.
Chris Daughtry:
Song 1: Renegade - Styx
Ahhh. Again, so hot. So powerful. So delicious. Oh Mama! Simon said his performance was "a million times better than the first two performances."
Song 2: I Dare You - Shinedown
As witnessed tonight, It is really hard to perform a current song and make it sound as good as it does on the radio. Chris is one of the rare performers on Idol who can accomplish that. I will say that I think he might have screamed a tiny bit too much this time around, a little scratchy. Simon said, "You're voice is going, you've got to watch that." Dude's straining his voice. Watch it honey buns!
Katharine McPhee:
First off, Ryan talked about Katharine's wardrobe malfunction from last week and thank God, cuz I thought I was the only one who saw her yellow underwear when her dress flew open.
Song 1: Against All Odds - Phil Collins
Alright. I don't really know why Katharine chose this song. I love Phil's version, but tonight it just felt weird. I'm hoping song #2 is a little better. I still love her though! Simon thought it was a mess and that the song ran away from her. Although, the embarrassing comment from Simon interrupting Ryan to make sure Katharine knew he said it wasn't one of his favorite performances was weird.
Song 2: Black Horse and a Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall
Katharine redeemed herself with her second song and the judges loved her. yay! Crawling on the floor works much better for her than it did Taylor.
Taylor Hicks:
Song 1: Play That Funky Music White Boy - Wild Cherry
I loved how Taylor went out in the audience to sing his song. I also liked him in his cute little blue jeans. BUT, how long can the goofiness work for him? I do like him and his voice, but the lying on the ground was a bit much. I have to agree with Simon when he said "it was like a horrible, horrible, wedding performance." Contestants should really try and be aware if a song is branded like that before they pick it...ya know what I mean?
Song 2: Something - The Beatles
Ok, now this one was really nice and really showed off Taylor's voice. BUT, as much as I like Taylor...I wouldn't buy a record by the fellow (and I buy a lot of shit). Sorry Taylor!
So this one is tough because I like everyone who is left. But if I have to pick someone to go home....well...eggggh, I'm torn between Taylor and Paris. Just torn!

I heard on the radio that PARIS is going home tonight. So long squeaky voice!
Elliot has a great voice but how would he be marketed? As a ballad singer like a modern day Michael Bolton? You know he's totally going to get free braces when the show is over.
I heard that Katharine is going to win American Idol. WHich means Chris will be this years Clay minus the closted homosexual troubles.
Where does this leave Taylor? Probably third.
My guess is that Taylor and Paris will be in the bottom 2 tonight with Paris going home (only because DJ said she heard Paris was next!). I don't want Katharine to win, because she's so boring. I love Chris but he's so not AI material. He needs something else.
paris has got to go....i'm sick of listening to her squeeky ass.
i just want to stare at chris....he's just sooooo hot!!!!
OMG, DJ is alive and well!! ..the wardrobe malfunction was posted all over the web, TW, blown up and zoomed in, etc.
